In order to warn future generations about radioactive waste, the Ray Cat project was launched to genetically engineer cats to glow when exposed to radioactive materials. The glowing cats largely avoid human society – the only remnant of Naked Ones they appreciate is the Purring, the radiation leftover from a melted-down reactor. When humans begin to investigate the cats’ advanced technology, something must be done to remove them from colony land.
